The University of Oregon men?s tennis team continues to impress the country as they improved to 8-0 on the season with a win over the New Mexico Lobos. New Mexico was the Ducks second consecutive ranked opponent this season, but the Ducks didn?t seem to notice as they handed them their fifth loss.
To say the doubles teams for the Ducks are good would be a disservice to the team. With yet another sweep, the Ducks improved to a perfect 23-0 in doubles play and they just keep on rolling. Once again, Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen led the way for the Ducks as they defeated??Conor Berg and Andrew Van Der Vyver 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Aaron Clissold and Daniel Sardu survived?Riaan du Toit and James Hignett 9-8 (5) in a match that could have gone either way in the No. 2 spot, while Daan Maasland and Alex Rovello handled?Jadon Phillips and Simon Hegelund 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
In singles, the Ducks continued their success from doubles as Robin Cambier began the day off with a?2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over?Samir Iftikhar in the top spot. Mullen and Maasland also went on to win their matches as Mullen defeated?Berg 7-5, 6-4 and Maasland beat?Mitch McDaniels 6-2, 6-2 in the third spot.?Rovello dropped the first match of the day as he loss a closely contest match toJadon Phillips 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in the fourth spot. Brent Chin?also?lost as he dropped to Riaan Du Toit 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth spot.?Daniel Sardu?would finish the day off on a high note however as he won over James Hignett 7-6, 6-3 in the sixth spot. Both Maasland (8-0) and Cambier (7-0) are now perfect on the season in singles as they continue to lead the Ducks in both categories.
On the horizon: For the first time this season, the Ducks will hit the road as they are set to face off against?Washington and Nevada-Las Vegas in Seattle, Wash next Friday on Feb. 22nd and Saturday, Feb. 23rd.
